The indicator light tells a customer at a glance whether the machine is live. It's a twelve-dollar part that does an outsized job: an unlit machine reads as broken from twenty feet away, and most people won't walk over to find out otherwise. A dark light doesn't just look bad, it silently turns away traffic you already paid to attract.

This is one of the cheapest things on a service checklist and one of the most commonly overlooked, because the machine still works — it just stops looking like it does.
